t was a cold and raining when we arrived at the venue. Something that immediately caught my attention was this kind of old school movie theater sign
above the entrance. (picture included). I really like this kind of detail. A couple of days before I got a text message from Isaac (Fisherman). He asked me if I wanted to attend the “Coldharbour night” at a venue called “Grenswerk” at Saturday the 31th of March. It is relative new place. It is not a club but a venue that hosts different kind of (music) events.
As we hurried in, the door staff, security and cashiers were all in noticeably good spirits. After we got rid of our coats we headed up the main stairs. The whole building has some nice glass elements. Since people are not allowed to smoke inside the main area anymore, they have a big looking fish tank on the second floor for smokers. We have been told that once we are inside that you buy your drinks with coins. A nice feature is that they have some dispensers on the wall where you can inserts cash or pay with a card to get coins. So after we got our coins we entered the glorious double sided door, the place was just over half full when we entered. The people already inside where dancing to“3LAU ft. Emma Hewitt - Worlds Away”. Within the hour the floor was packed, the vibe was high and the tone was set for the rest of the evening.
The inside of the actual event area is pretty nice. You can see they gave the layout a good thought. They have the bar next to the entrance and both sides have stairs that lead to the upper balcony. On the upper part they have another bar and the light
jockey is seated there. Unfortunately this part was closed off for today. Not that it dampened our mood in anyway. The DJ booth was set up in the middle of the room and it really merged the DJ with the crowd. We entered the room when Koen Groeneveld was finishing his set and Daxson took his place behind the wheels of steel. Through the night I was lucky enough to see and hear also Omnia, Nifra and Fisherman play some great tunes. It was nothing less then I expected of an Coldharbour event. Every DJ played his/her unique style and the crowd loved it. All of them being embraced by the fans.
I really liked that everyone of them got some much energy from the crowd but also gave so much back. Not that often that you see all the DJ's take their time for pictures and stayed visible in the crowd after their gig. Even during the gig replying to high fives and selfies was not unusual. The people enjoyed the classic as much as the newer tunes. For me music connects people and this is what I saw tonight. You had old dancing next to the young. Everyone enjoying the music whether it was the classics or newer tracks. A personal highlight was hearing “Motorcycle – As The Rush Comes” for me a track that always invokes pleasant memories. The spirit of coldharbour and trance was very much alive this night. Seeing fisherman playing for the first time in his hometown with the people who made it possible felt like a historic moment, and one that everyone present was lucky to be a part of.
