whats in your studio?
Nutty T hails from the UK and started his illustrious career back in 2005, when he set up the Nutty Traxx label. He has a very unique style that can be only be described has dark and hard, combining elements of hardstyle and raw aggressive acidlines. Standing at well over 150 releases the man much like his music is unpredictable and unrelenting, and his DJ performances are without a doubt a spectacle of wild and insane antics.
He has worked with such acts as Delete, Vazard, Thera, Da Tweekaz & Luca Antolini to name a few. His tracks have been supported on BBC Radio 1, Q-Dance Radio, Loudness, Defqon1 plus much more with tracks included on EMI & Ministry Of Sound compilations. Not to mention number 1 best sellers on many major stores, and Runner up as the best Hardstyle DJ and Producer in the HDM Awards 2014.
How did it all get started for you?
I first started producing in around 1998 making Old Skool Hardcore, then I went onto more Hardhouse and Hardtrance. I heard Cosmic Gate - "Fire Wire" for the first time and I was like 'Wow this is awesome!' After years of producing this style I heard a Hardstyle track Deepack - "The Prophecy" and I never looked back. I was given a few opportunities by labels. I sent a 160 bpm track to Nukleuz and back then Dave Louka, I think that was his name, A&R at the time for the label, said he would sign the track if I made it more UK Hardcore. I wasn't too sure and he asked me to perhaps send it to Tidy, as it was more Hardhouse. Back then the A&R man was Lee Haslam and he said
he would be interested, but they usually do track at about 145 bpm.
At the time I didn't want to change it, but looking back now though these guys were probably right. Someone suggested to set up set my own label. So in 2005 I set up Nutty Traxx, which back then was Nutty Trance. Now here we are.
Who are your favourite producers or DJ's and who would you love to be in a studio with?
If I had the choice, my dream collab would be The Prodigy. This is one of the reasons I fell in love with producing.
A close second would have to be Zany, I can't praise this guy enough, the amount of tunes that he has been involved with that I've loved including Southstylers, Donkey Rollers and his original alias are phenomenal.
With a few hits under your belt and still out and about doing your thing, where are you now and where do you see yourself over the next few years?
Well Nutty Traxx will be bringing out an album with various artists from the label, celebrating 10 years hence the name - Decade Of Darkness.
I'm really starting to push more unique sounds and help my fellow artists on the label progress to even higher levels.
Whats your favourite toy?
Virus TI is at the top of the list of equipment, the amount of power this has is unbelievable. It's definitely a must have for any serious sound designer and producer.
Do you see yourself incorporating live producing into sets?
Not in the near future, but never say never.
Any tips for building your tracks?
I usually always start with the break first, then work your way around.
Any tips for sending demos?
Never just send a link, at least send a little bit of information about yourself and listen to the tracks on the label prior to sending. Don't forget to be humble when you send your demo, the last thing labels want to hear is 'Oh this tune is the bomb'.
Also when they give you feedback about certain things take the criticism on the chin and learn from it. The last thing you want to do is throw a hissy fit and say 'My mates thought this was awesome, you don't know what you're talking about.' That will probably be the last time they give you the time of day.
