Any tracks or remixes that you have
coming up soon?
Any producers that have been turning
your head recently that we should look
out for?
Fairmont’s tracks over the last year have been excellent, Erdi Irmak, Mariano Mellino, Sahar Z, Roy Rosenfeld, Khen Guy Mantzur (all the Israeli prods are great) Philip Straub, been enjoying Weird Sounding Dude’s productions, Madben, Cypherpunx & Luke Brancaccio - there’s so many - Lopezhouse, Zoo Brazil, Andy Arias - Interaxxis
What’s the first thing you’ll be doing when
the lockdown has been lifted?
Going for a pint in the pub. I’m not a big beer drinker but I’ve been craving having someone pour me a pint in a glass and hand it to me which I then drink at my leisure, while having a chat. A great British past time.
Finally, if you could choose three
musicians/bands that influenced you the
most, who would they be?
Three? That’s tough. Apart from John who has been by far the biggest influence over the last 30 years, maybe Hendrix as a performer, Brian Eno as a producer and Vangelis as a keyboard player.
Special mention to Pat Collier, producer for The Wonder Stuff, Jesus & Mary Chain, Primal Scream & countless others, owner of Greenhouse, Gravity Shack and Perry Vale Studios for taking me under his wing and allowing us to grow the music we have made over the years. Taught me so much for which I am eternally grateful.
I have a track due to drop in June with the Omnia label called ‘Remind Me Later’ - that’s backed with incredible remixes by Mariano Mellino with Baunder and Luce Lozz. The label is out of Buenos Aires and is an offshoot of the Omnia production company with whom I have been working for a number of years. Touring in Argentina has been a wonderful experience and the people have been so warm and generous to me. I owe them a lot. I’ve done a remix of a wicked tune by Simon Sinfield called Decadence on Krafted Underground; I’m talking to Proton about a release which I’m just trying to finalise; John and I have remixed a track by the wonderful Bog called ‘Corso' which has turned out really well, that drops on May 22nd, I did a remix for Nacho from Integral Bread on the Univack label out of Seville, Spain which is out in a couple months - these are the next tunes up.
You’ve been streaming live every Tuesday during the lockdown. It’s a strange experience at first during streams,
how do you find it?
I have actually loved it! Even with the stupid Facebook takedowns which I managed somehow to avoid on the last one we did. The cool thing about it is the live aspect, the fact that it happens in real time which adds a frisson that pre-recording a mix doesn't quite have. Also, you get realtime comments coming in which lends the thing a sense of community, a good atmosphere that comes with people who enjoy this type of music getting together and joining in with enthusiasm. So important that; this brand of entertainment is dependent on people contributing positively, it’s meant to be a party after all.
