Any pieces of equipment that are your “go to” bits of kit?
As I said I use Logic Pro X, but I have lots of plugins. My favourite keyboard plugins are the Korg M1 and the UVI Workstation, I use them mostly for piano and strings sounds. The other plugin that I use on almost every track is Rob Papen’s Sub Boom Bass. I use the sampler (EXS 24) in Logic a lot and I have lots of my owns sampled sounds, that I have collected over the years, that I’ve imported into the Logic sampler. I also really like the Alchemy soft myth in Logic, which is great for pads and sequences.
What would you say are the main influences for the album?
I’ve been told by one respected DJ friend of mine that he can hear Leftfield, The Beloved, Future Sound Of London, The Orb, Primal Scream and dub reggae flavours in the album. And I’m more than happy with that. Thanks Mike Mac.
You are well known for your full throttle dj sets, however the album has a great mixture of style, was this a conscious decision to showcase different genres?
Yes, I wanted the album to be different from my singles, which are made for DJs to play in clubs. Doing an album gave me the freedom to write music in different styles. I wanted to do some
tracks with a slower tempo and I wanted some to be just for chilling to. But I also wanted the album to have a definite start and finish, so that it could take you on a musical journey.
What's next in the pipeline for you?
I’m constantly writing music and doing remixes. I run my own label - Jeepers! Music - so I release tracks for other producers as well. And Jeepers! is coming up to the 100th single release, which I’m in the process of producing.
I’ve got plenty of projects ongoing and I’ve even started writing tracks in my head for my next album.
I’m also desperately looking forward to DJing again and being able get my club events - Tech-noir and Bad Dog Club - up and running again.
I’m just keeping on keeping on.
