THE PLAYERS CDFC 1964-90
1. MOBBS, Dean 1970-1983
Games: 306.
Mobbs was a hard-running midfielder with Finals experience in 1971, 72, 79, and 82. He was selected for the State of Origin squad in 1979. Mobbs was the Clubs’ games’ record holder until Peter Vivian surpassed him in 1985. He kicked 176 goals and made State three times. As a centreman, he would lead the club from 1978-83, making him the longest serving Captain of the era. Not as heralded as the Ebert’s, Marker’s and Bagshaw’s, he would go about his work seemingly unconcerned about the quality he was up against.
2. CASSERLY, Tony 1970-75
Games: 101.
Recruited from WAFL club East Fremantle as a player, he then went on to become both a player and a coach. He captained the club from 1971-74 and coached from 1972- 75. Casserly took the team to the 1972 Preliminary Final after a wonderful game in the Semi Final. He kicked 60 goals and was selected for the State side twice. A ruck rover with great athleticism, he was also used to great effect at half-forward where his speed and marking were key for the Dogs.
3. WINDOW, Gary 1964-66 and 1969-70
Games: 84.
Gary Window was a star. He kicked 74 goals and was also selected in the State side twice. An original Bulldog in more ways than one, he had won the Reserves Magarey Medal in 1963 while the dogs were preparing for their inception in 1964. His introduction to the competition was an instant success. He was awarded the 1965 Magarey Medal, despite the teams struggles – a testimony to his obvious talent. He also claimed the Club’s Best and Fairest the that same year. Window later coached the club and was named in the centre in the Centrals’ Team of the Era. After his playing career was over, he spent time in the Channel Nine commentary box through the 70’s and early 80’s.
