Tube-dwelling blennies often live in the holes left behind by burrowing worms p. 158 . Many of these holes can be found on the same coral head and the ones nearest the top get more bits of plankton oating by. These penthouse holes are prized by the largest and strongest blenny in the area. Males will also try for the largest holes in order to attract a female. She will deposit her eggs into the bottom of the best possible hole. The male will then fertilize these eggs and remain there with only his head poking out, guarding them until they are ready to hatch.
