J-1 Exchange Visa
• The J-1 visa is designed to develop education and cultural exchange and to take learned skills back to your home country
• Interns can stay up to 12 months
• Trainees can stay up to 18 months
• Scholars can stay up to 5 years
• Designated J-1 organization acts as a sponsor to facilitate the application process
• U.S. company is the host and provides the worksite location and training to the J-1
Comment: Some J-1 visa holders must return to their home country for 2 years after their program is completed prior to switching to another work visa
