 Hydrogen Bond
HYDROGEN BOND: Hydrogen bonds with an atom that has (1) high electronegativity and (2) a small atomic radius.
Hydrogen Bonds:
• Hydrogen bonds with F, O, and N. These are the
3 combinations of how a hydrogen can bond:
• Hydrogen has one electron, so it’s always giving it away. This makes it a positive ion.
• A hydrogen bond is a very strong bond! This bond is extremely dipole. The hydrogen
seems very positive and the other element seems very negative. Therefore, it will attract
its neighboring molecules very strongly.
• Water (H2O) has a very high boiling point because its hydrogen bond is so strong.
There are many Regents questions on this topic.
