Now let’s use this equation to find the mass of ‘Cu’.
We know the mass of all the other molecules in the equation. We also know that the left side of the equation and the right side of the equation must be balanced.
1.08 grams Al + 9.58 grams CuSO4 6.85 grams Al2(SO4)3 + ? grams Cu 1.08+9.58 = 10.66 6.85+?=10.66
The left side of the equation equals 10.66, which means that the right side of the equation must also equal 10.66.
As of now, the right side looks like this: 6.85+?=10.66
Solve: 10.66 – 6.85 = 3.81
Now both sides of the equation are equal: 10.66=10.66
