Other Balancing Equations Questions 1. You may be asked to find the ratio of molecules in a balanced equation.
What is the ratio of hydrogen to ammonia in this balanced equation: N2+3H2 2NH3? Just find the coefficient of hydrogen (H), which is 3.
Then find the coefficient of ammonia (NH3), which is 2.
The answer can be expressed in 3 ways:
a. 3to2 b. 3:2 c. 3/2
2. You may need to fill in missing elements to make the equation balanced. Given: Zn + 2HCl X + H2. What would the X represent in a balanced equation?
The left side includes: 1Zn, 2H, and 2Cl
The right side includes: 2H. We’re missing 1Zn and 2Cl. Therefore, X must equal ZnCl2.
