Collision Theory
COLLISION THEORY: This theory states that chemical reactions happen when particles bump into each other effectively.
• EFFECTIVE COLLISIONS happen when particles collide (bump into each other) at the correct angles.
• ACTIVATION ENERGY: The minimum amount of energy needed to start a reaction.
• RATE OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS: The speed at which chemical reactions occur – in other words, the speed of effective collisions.
• MECHANISM OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS: The sequence of events that occurs within a chemical reaction.
The more effective collisions there are, the quicker the rate of
the reaction.
That’s like the amount of battery power I need to start my cell phone.
