a. GEOLOGIC DATING: Finding the age of inanimate objects (such as rocks)
The ratio of uranium-238 to lead-206 is used to find the geologic age. b. Dating living material: dating something that was once
alive (such as bones or wood)
The ratio of C-14 to C-12 is used to find the age of living material.
• Nuclear power – power for electricity
• Industrial measurement – measuring the thickness of
metal using alpha, beta, and gamma particles
