The way to lasting change is through creating habits, and that's why it's so important to commit yourself to creating the habit of growing your abundance and following a program for developing the 21 Distinctions of Wealth. I explained this program in the Introduction of this book, and you can use the checklists at the back and available on my Website (www.destinies.com) to help you stay on track. No amount of intellectual understanding of the Distinctions can substitute for developing the habit of living by them.
As you go about your day, reciting your affirmations at least three times (in the morning, once during the day, and at night), remember that it's important to remain aware of the flow of wealth. Create and use the Assets and Liabilities Journal described in Distinction #20 to help you do so. Then, as you become more conscious of any negative attitudes about wealth and abundance you're experiencing, you'll probably notice that you're more likely to engage in them, and the negative feelings they create, in certain situations.
Consider limiting your exposure to these situations. If talking about money with your financial advisor, spouse, friend, or parent always makes you feel guilty and ashamed, consider whether his or her approach is making it difficult for you to let go of those emotions and experience positive ones as you make financial decisions. You might want to explore the ways in which you can discuss money together without your feeling drawn into negativity, and you might choose to stop discussing money with him or her altogether if that's appropriate (for instance, you may want to hire a new financial advisor or not talk about your financial decision making with your friend or parent).
Be aware of your resources-the gold beneath the Buddha's surface-and the flow of wealth in your life. Be conscious of how you're spending and investing your abundance. Most important, know your emotions so that you can be sure you're creating the powerful positive ones that will increase your abundance. All of us can fall into old habits or become unconscious during the course of our busy days. Cultivate awareness, but if you should happen to notice that you're back to the old pattern of worrying about your debt or spending money out of a sense of lack, don't judge yourself and feel that you've failed somehow. Simply shift back into wealth consciousness and immediately change your behavior,
