the affection that was lavished upon them so generously; rather, it's that their hearts long to see those they care about experience feelings of joy, delight, and security.
Recently, I found out that a young person I know, the son of one of my friends, was struggling financially. He's a hardworking, wonderful young man, and I felt terrific about being able to give him a large sum of money, with no expectation of being paid back, to make his life a little easier. I think I enjoyed giving the gift as much as he enjoyed receiving it. The more money I have, the more I can let it flow forth from me out into the world again.
When you experience wealth consciousness-truly believing that affluence is an ever-flowing river that can be channeled and directed through the power of positive emotions-you find that you don't have feelings of greed, guilt, or lack. Instead, you feel fertile, giving, and generous as your cup overflows with joy and abundance. But when you have a lack mentality instead of wealth consciousness, you're fearful about how money is spent because you think there isn't enough to go around. Some people have a great deal of money but are constantly afraid of losing it and refuse to invest it, give any of it away, or risk any of it because they're afraid they won't have enough for a rainy day. They're frugal to the point of hoarding.
When we give freely and unconditionally, trusting in the infinite supply of abundance, we'll find that we have what we need. The love we share, the value we give others, and the bounty that we let flow from ourselves into the world will always come back around to us in some form or another.
There's a wonderful story in the novel A Tree Grows in Brooklyn that illustrates the importance of feeling the emotion of abundance in the face of scarcity. Katie Nolan is a poor mother in Brooklyn, New York, in the early 1900s. Although money is extremely tight and the family often goes hungry, she pours her daughter, Francie, a cup of coffee every morning-even though the girl never drinks from it. Francie savors the rich smell and the comforting warmth of the mug as she nestles it in her hand. She takes the time to enjoy her coffee every morning, and then when it has cooled off and she has finished drinking in its
