The First Hour After Birth: A Baby’s 9 Instinctive Stages
The birth of your baby is a time you will never forget, and we want you to be able to bond with your baby as much as possible. Right after birth, your baby will be dried with a towel, and as long as there are no complications, they will then be placed directly on your chest. This initial snuggling time is called skin to skin and has many important health benefits, including:
FOR BABY
• Cries less and is calmer
• Have a more stable and normal heart rate
• Have better blood sugar levels
• More alert after birth
• Protected by some of your good bacteria
• Stay warmer
• Breastfeed better
MOTHER
• Learn cues that your baby is ready to feed
• Bond with your baby
• Breastfeed more easily
