There are many other bene ts to youth who interact with older adults through intergenerational connections. These bene ts can include bringing differences togeth-
er to better understand one another, learning from one another, and learning how to interact with people who
are much older. Overall, youth can learn about the impor- tance of relationships with older adults in their community. There are also many bene ts to seniors participating in intergenerational programs. Seniors can feel valued, use- ful, share their life experiences, spend time with youth, have pride in knowing they are making a difference, and diminish social isolation. The Barrier Island Center was created and is managed under Brevard County’s Environmentally Endangered Lands Program referenda. The Program was established by voters in 1990 and reaffirmed in 2004 to protect and preserve the rich biological diversity and native species of Brevard County for future generations.
