Module 3: Learning to Write
Learning Objectives for Module 3:
Building the connections between cognitive thinking files, motor skills and a child's knowledge of letter sounds, it is the function of Module 3: Learning to Write to teach children how to apply their understanding of the animal characters and their starting shapes to letter formation. This module is broken into teaching letter formation and thinking games to help children consolidate the storage and recall of the letters by family group. Getting this module right is important as it form the foundation for joining letters together to make sounds, words, sentences and stories.
Module 3 : Showing and Telling
In the Showing and Telling section of the programme in Module 3 you have the option to select the animal family you would like to intorduce. The initial slides in each learning unit, enable discussion and rehearsal of previously learnt content regarding the letter family group.
You will then be able to scroll through and reveal each letter in turn, that belongs within your selected family group, by pressing the blue arrow.
At the end of the unit the total number of letters within the selected family group will automatically appear.
Introducing the animal letter family offers you the teaching opportunity to explicitly show to the children an animal character, its starting shape, the letters that begin with the starting shape as well as the number of letters that belongs to the letter family. The explicit nature of teaching appraoch is designed to help the
chidren 'see' the 'whole' concept of each animal family, before they spend specific teaching time learning.
