Module 2: Getting Ready for Writing Teacher’s Guide.
Objective: Symmetrically stimulating both hands at the same time
     Lesson Plan:
To support and encourage the natural development of symmetrical control to the hands.
1. Place sufficient marbles on a tray or in a contained space on the floor or table top.
2. Ask the child or children to place both of their hands on the marbles, with their
fingers flat. The marbles need to be postioned under the palms of the hands. 3. Ask the children to move both of their hands, at the same time, either forward
and back, side to side or in circles. Both hands need to be working
symmetrically together, completing the same movement.
4. The children continue this until you say stop.
5. Ask the children to do the movement again, using a different symmetrical
movement.
This movement needs to be included regularly and frequently across the week.
 More to Learn:
1. Children can rub their feet on marbles to activate the same symmetrical control in the lower limbs.
2. If you are concerned about safety when using marbles, you can sew the marbles into a soft delicate washing bag, this way children can still do the movement but the marbles cannot then be isolated and played with by the children.
3. Children need to work on this activity until they can control symmetrical movements in the hands and also keep their fingers straight on the marbles.
Support:
Always demonstrate the movement to the children.
Some young children may need help in keeping their hands on the marbles, and feeling symmetrical movement. You can do this by using hand over hand actions, placing your hands on top of the child’s hands to facilitate the movement with them.
