                       — March 2021 High-Reliability, Harsh-Environment eBook —
Welcome to our 2021 High-Reliability, Harsh-Environment Connectivity eBook. This exciting new volume features another interesting, informative, and advantageous collection of high-quality connectivity content direct from experts at more than 20 leading connectivity companies.
The 13 technical, tutorial articles collected here address connectivity trends and specification tips for high- reliability connectors, cables, cable assemblies, and sensors deployed in harsh-environment applications spanning land, sea, air, and space. The military, aviation, and space industries emerged as topics of especial interest this issue, along with industrial applications ranging from automation to alternative energy. But several authors also addressed the unique demands of the marine, transportation, and test and measurement industries.
Design engineers working in these industries today face myriad challenges posed by the steadily growing demand for ever-greater interconnectivity combined with exacting electrical performance standards, stringent reliability requirements, and rigorous environmental and operating hazards. In the following pages, experienced personnel from industry-proven interconnect suppliers explain how to assess and overcome a litany of such challenges and achieve optimal connectivity solutions as quickly, safely, effectively, and cost-effectively as possible.
Authors touch on the design, development, and testing of connectivity solutions optimized to not only enable the safe, secure, and reliable transmission of power, signal, data, and other media but to ruggedly, reliably, and durably withstand exposure to an extensive array of environmental operating hazards as well — ranging from mechanical shock and vibration to extreme temperatures, dust, dirt, humidity, water, corrosion, oils, gasses, chemicals, the vacuum of space, and even explosions. They also share tips for simultaneously addressing today’s slate of overarching connectivity design demands for characteristics including size, weight, power efficiency, cost savings, design flexibility, ease of installation and maintenance, standards compliance, and high-speed, high-bandwidth, high-signal-integrity data transmission.
In addition, this special issue eBook highlights a selection of more than 40 connectivity products designed, developed, tested, or even qualified to satisfy this extensive range of high-reliability, harsh-environment connectivity design demands.
We hope you enjoy this first of three 2021 eBooks and welcome you to share your comments with us via email or our LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook pages, as well as to share the issue link on yours.
Our next special issue eBook will focus on connectivity components and include expert insights into the building blocks of connector products, protective accessories, manufacturing and assembly technologies, and wire, cable, sensors, and antennas.
