Liverpool is a professional football club in Liverpool, England, that competes in the Premier League. Founded in 1892, the club joined the Football League the following year and has played at An<ield since its formation. Liverpool became European champions for the <ifth time in 2005, before a sixth title was added under Jürgen Klopp in 2019. Liverpool was the seventh highest-earning football club in the world in 2019 and the world's eighth most valuable football club in 2019. The club is one of the
most widely supported teams in the world. The club's supporters have been involved in two major tragedies: the Heysel Stadium disaster, where escaping fans were pressed against a collapsing wall at the 1985 European Cup Final in Brussels and the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, where 96 Liverpool supporters died in a crush against perimeter fencing.
