Installation Suggestions
The accurate positioning and secure installation of letters and plaques is essential to a professional-looking sign.
Installation options and mounting methods shown in our catalog are recommendations only - and are offered to the Sign Professional as guides only. Many factors such as mounting surface, local codes, space restrictions, structural integrity, and personal preference all may play a part in how your letters or signs should be installed.
While most installations can be performed with limited equipment in a reasonable length of time, use of professional installers or contractors should still be considered when installing more complicated jobs – especially with heavier metal letters and plaques.
INSTALL CONSIDERATIONS
PREPARE FOR YOUR INSTALL:
1. Are there any local codes or sign restrictions to be aware of?
2. Will the mounting surface require additional support – or preparation?
3. Will the mounting option ordered securely hold the letters or plaques?
4. Will additional equipment or tools be required for the installation?
5. Has any required permit been approved prior to ordering my letters or plaques?
MOUNTING SURFACE CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Brick or Block walls: order studs in line for Brick – Block.
2. Stucco Walls: secure with studs and pads (Comb or Comb All mount)
3. Corrugated Walls: ideal if letters are secured to rails first, then onto wall by word.
4. Glass: secure flat letters with double faced tape and silicone – plain or pad mounts – light
product(s).
5. Plastic Panels: flat plastic can be bonded to plastic panels with double faced tape or
solvent.
6. Wood: Pads, Studs, or a combination of the two work well.
INSTALL GUIDES:
1. Mounting Pattern: a drilling template for any mounting that has a stud mount.
2. Stencil: a full sized paper pattern for flat - plain or double faced taped letters under 6”.
3. Split Stencil: a partial stencil for flat - plain, double faced tape or pad mount letters.
4. Spacing Tape: a narrow paper guide to help position pad mounted plastic letters.
Glass Installation
MOUNTING PATTERNS: Patterns are not sent with orders unless ordered ($4.25/letter). All stud mounted or combination mounted letters will require some type of drilling template to install.
