8.1.1 LEADING PRODUCTS PURCHASED
Overall, a third of cruise travellers in the North American & Caribbean region make a purchase from an on-board convenience store during their trip. Although various product types are bought, three categories should be considered priority going forward:
 Food / snacks: A third of those purchasing from on-board convenience stores purchase food / snack items. Operators should therefore ensure a wide range of snack based and immediate consumption based items. Potential also exists to incorporate local delicacies / variants into product ranges.
 Postcards: Around a third purchase postcards from on-board convenience stores. Providing a good mix of location and ship based postcards should be considered a key priority. Potential also exists to compliment this postcard ranges with personalization services as well as an in-store postal service.
 Magazines / books: Magazines & books are bought by around 3 in 10 of those making a purchase from a convenience store on-board the vessel. Ensure the magazine / book offering meets the different language needs of cruise travellers using traveller nationality data. Also potential to tailor magazine offering by traveller profile.
