Our findings highlight several factors driving main item purchasing at on-land stores in the European region (we define the main item as the purchase the buyer considers to be their most important). However, operators and brands should look to prioritise the following three areas going forward when looking to drive purchasing in the channel:
 The item is good quality
 The item was cheaper than elsewhere
 There was an attractive promotion
Other key factors driving purchasing among European cruise travellers include to stock-up, the item being a regular brand, the item was a good souvenir, and it was a well-known brand.
