2.2.3 FUTURE CRUISE LIKELIHOOD
Repeat cruising is a significant trend among European cruise travellers, with 90% of our sample planning to take a cruise of two nights or more within the next 12 months.
Figure 5: Future Cruise Likelihood
Cruising likelihood in the next six months is significantly more prominent among British and older travellers
In the next 2 years 15%
In the
next 6 months 39%
In the next 5 years 4%
In the next 12 months 36%
Will not go on another 6%
In the shorter term, British and older travellers are significantly more likely to be looking to go on a cruise within the next six months, with Germans much more likely to be looking to travel on a cruise in the next twelve months.
Longer term cruises (7+ nights) are expected to remain dominant in the coming years. However, medium term services are expected to increase in prominence, driven by Italians and younger travellers.
From our research, we also anticipate the European region, particularly the Mediterranean, to remain the most prominent in terms of future cruise location. However, the Caribbean has also been identified as an area of future interest by 30% of those looking to embark on a cruise in the next five years.
Whilst long and extended cruises are expected to remain dominant, medium cruises are expected to increase in prominence
The European region, remains the most popular region for future cruises, although the Caribbean is also a region of future interest
