Grand Beach has long been an appealing destination, an area that Chicagoans started coming to in the early 1900’s. A quiet retreat along the shores of Lake Michigan, it quickly became a place to get away from the big city and enjoy the recreation, beaches, or just the serene sounds of nature.
In order to accommodate the large influx of visitors, the Golfmore Hotel was built in 1921. This resort hotel had 175 rooms and saw hundreds of visitors a day. Guests could enjoy anything from horseback riding to swimming, dancing and tennis to playing a round of golf on the 27-hole course. They could even attend a meet at the ski jump that was also an attraction of the hotel. This area became known as the “Gateway to Michigan”. Sadly, the Golfmore Hotel was destroyed by a fire on November 19th, 1939.
In an effort to continue the recreation offered by the Resort and honor the memory of the hotel enjoyed by so many, a pristine luxury community was developed and named
Golfmore Estates. The famous white arches of Grand Beach still stand today and openly welcome the families who return year after year to this very special community, of which Golfmore Estates is an integral part. When you select your lot at Golfmore Estates, you join generations of families who have enjoyed spending time here, forging new friendships amidst the charming tree-lined neighborhoods of tasteful, timeless homes within the dunes and shores of Lake Michigan. Retreat to the relaxation and beauty that is Golfmore Estates, after a visit to this private area of Grand Beach it will quickly become obvious that it is the perfect spot for your family getaway for generations to come.
