Lake Forest is a residential community with towering trees, natural ravines and bluffs, and a beach on Lake Michigan. Market Square, designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw and thought to be the first planned shopping center in the nation, forms the hub of downtown. The park department operates seven parks, a beach with boat launch, and a golf course. Lake Forest also offers superb schools and a college.
