back-office to download all the information we need, then they are taken back to the correct areas to operate successfully before opening to the public the next day.
The development of the campsite was supported by councillors and management at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in 2017 and was invested in heavily to increase the visitor economy of the area. Customers had been asking
for a high-quality campsite within Rother Valley Country Park for some time. The campsite is classed as an Invest to Save project, which means that when the campsite becomes profitable the income will be used
to improve the country parks within Rotherham including Rother Valley.
From the outset the campsite development was built with the aim of having a high-quality facility with an excellent customer care ethos.
In 2019 our new campsite opened Waleswood Caravan and Camping Park with two new tills for the reception/shop and a licensed coffee shop area provided through Merlin, which is linked to the main park back-office operation. We use a separate online booking system for the touring bookings.
We have had a great relationship with the team at Merlin, with no problem or question being too much trouble for them. We pay for a service level agreement annually which is very worthwhile for the
customer service and help that the park receives from the Merlin team. They talk staff through any problems or questions they may have over the phone and they can login to the back-office system online remotely to resolve any technical problems that may arise.
Merlin as a provider has also evolved over time as we have, offering
us both new opportunities and solutions to our development for improved customer service and business planning.
