Tiger baseball regional hopes fading
By Will Goldbeck
For The Times
With only two games left in the regular season, the chances of reaching the Northern Califor- nia regionals are slipping away for the Reedley College baseball team.
After winning four games last week, the Tigers dropped a 9-8 decision to second place Merced College on April 24. The loss left the Tigers a half game behind third place College of the Sequoi- as in the Central Valley Confer- ence standings. The Tigers are 13-9 in conference play and 23-
15 overall going into a Thursday, April 28, 2 p.m. home game with first place Fresno City College and Friday, April 29, 4 p.m. home contest with Taft College.
The Tigers were 90 feet away from tying the game at Merced after Leo Arrequin doubled and later advanced on a wild pitch. But a strikeout ended the game. Mike Rios and Justin Tiger hit solo home runs for Reedley .
Reedley came back from a 3-0 first inning deficit in a 6-3 come- back win over the College of the
Sequoias on April 23 in Reedley. Eddie Avalos threw four and two thirds innings of shutout ball to get the win. Nilen People’s drove in two runs for the winners.
After winning the comple- tion of a season of March 10 sus- pended game you a 20-12 count, Reedley came back and won the regular game by a score of 20-1 on April 21 in Porterville. Rios drove in three runs with a pair of doubles.
At Coalinga on April 19, the Tigers recorded a 6-2 win over West Hills. Orin Hirschkorn led a 13-hit attack with two doubles and a single.
