Orosi drops to 6-7 overall after a 52-32 loss to R.F. Kennedy

Orosi High’s girls basketball team couldn’t get the offense rolling as the Cardinals lost their last game to R.F. Kennedy High, 52-32, in the Dinuba- Orosi Holiday Classic Saturday morning.
On Friday afternoon, Orosi had a 21-20 halftime lead before Coalinga pulled away with a strong second half effort in a 57-49 win over the host Cardinals.

The Horned Toads (12-3) were led by
senior point guard Serena Ybarra game- high 27 points.
Earlier in the tournament, Orosi beat Mendota 52-46. The Cardinals dropped the opener to Golden West on Dec. 19, 46-31. The loss to the Trailblazers put an end Orosi’s three-game winning streak.
In the championship game, Roosevelt defeated Caruthers, 55-48, behind Qierra Murray’s game-high 20 points.
The Roughriders’ Lesly Aguilar was the Most Valuable Player for Roosevelt, who improved to 7-2 overall.
The Cardinals, who entered the tournament having defeated Orange Cove, 55-36, on Dec. 18 and a 55-22 win over Parlier on Dec. 13, are currently 6-7 overall and 3-0 in West Sequoia League play.

third quarter. The Lady Pirates had some momentum heading into the fourth and Dinuba responded. A pair of free throws by Navarro and another 3-pointer by Flores pushed the lead to 37-21 with seven minutes remaining in the game. RHS again made a surge closing with 11 at 39-28 on a basket by Clair McGahan but the Emperors managed to stay ahead for the win.
Yasmine Villareal-Harris scored 10 points and Ashley Flores added nine while Navarro had eight.
On Friday night, Dinuba suffered one of its toughest setbacks as the Emperors did not score a basket in overtime in a 43-32 loss to Cesar Chavez High School.
The erased a 22-16 halftime lead outscoring DHS 16-11 in the second half. Freshman point guard Kailey Lopez was the only player to score double
figures for Dinuba with 15 points. Lopez, Villareal-Harris and Kaylee Villasenor scored 10 points a piece in a 51-21 win over Tulare Western on
Thursday.
Dinuba got out to a great start leading

A 7-0 run and a six minute scoring drought by Reedley High helped the Dinuba High basketball team defeat the Lady Pirates, 44-35, capturing third place at the Dinuba-Orosi Holiday Classic Saturday in Dinuba.

A Look Back at the Best Sports Moments of 2018

Without a doubt, this year in sports had plenty of outstanding performances from Dinuba and Orosi High teams and athletes.
It began in January with impressive showings by the Orosi High girls soccer team, who remained undefeated with a 19-0-2 record, while the Dinuba High boys soccer team was rolling along as well with their fifth straight win.
Orosi High sophomore point guard Arzel Quicio had a game for the ages, scoring 37 points in a win over Kings Christian.
• In February, the DHS boys basketball team pieced together a strong stretch of games that included a 60-50 win over top-seeded Selma. The
Orosi High girls soccer team celebrated a Division 5 Valley title as the Cardinals rewrote the history book with a state playoff win and the most wins in any sport.
Emperors went on to win their opening round playoff game in thrilling fashion behind Josh Magana’s 33-point effort, 83-81, against Delano in overtime.
The DHS boys soccer team suffered a tough and unusual loss to Reedley. After the Emperors appeared to have defeated the Pirates at home, but an officiating error forced an overtime match the next day. RHS went on to win after 15 penalty kicks.
• March definitely had some moments as the OHS girls soccer team, fresh off their 1-0 win over Sierra Pacific for the Division V title, the Cardinals made history winning their first state playoff game. Orosi defeated Azusa advancing to the semifinals where the season ended after a 3-1 loss to top seeded St.

Marcus McMaryion had quite a career at Fresno State as the senior helped the Bulldogs to a 12-2 record after a win over Arizona State in the Las Vegas Bowl and a Mountain West Conference Championship.
