The Sequoia Symphony’s annual holiday concert will feature some swinging Christmas tunes as well as traditional melodies. The concert will be performed twice—at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Visalia Fox Theatre.
Songs include a medley of swinging holiday tunes that uses five saxophones along with a Les Brown arrangement of “The Nutcracker.”
Singer Brandon Pasion has become a tradition at the concert. A former Visalian who is now pursuing a country music career, he will sing several Michael Bublé arrangements. The Golden
West High School Choir will perform at the matinee, and the El Diamante High School Choir will sing at night. A children’s choir will perform “Somewhere in My Memory” from “Home Alone.”
An annual treat is always a young singer with Tulare Encore Kids belting out “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas,” this year sung by Madeleine Reynolds.
Tickets are $22 to $45 at the symphony office, 208 W. Main Street, Suite D, Visalia, downstairs in Montgomery Square. Student prices are $10. Tickets are also available at 732-8600 or go to www. sequoiasymphonyorchestra.com.

Pastor's Corner
W
ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Savior’s first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for his second coming. By celebrating the precursor’s birth and martyrdom, the Church unites herself to his desire: ‘He must increase, but I must decrease.’” - Catholic Church Catechism #524
Advent - Week 2
"
hen the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present this
Jesus the Christ. As a kid and now as a dad, our living room is full of ripped, tattered wrapping paper that was neatly placed
on each gift so painstakingly done with precision. Sitting in front of the fireplace and next to the Christmas tree, we all are thankful for the true reason for the holiday family get together - Jesus - happy that a son comes home from his military station or a family member coming from out of town or inviting a person to our home
that has no place to celebrate. All this preparation for such a joy and a feeling of holiday festiveness, is satisfied with the knowledge that can celebrate Jesus’ birth and atonement through His death, burial and resurrection.
Week two of the four candles
typically focuses on “Love” with a few denominations focusing on John the Baptist’s role and his teachings. The love we have as Christians comes from the
love of God or the “agape” love of God. Although the world says, “Love is all you need,” we need to be more exact in our meaning of that love. “Love never fails,” is a verse that really states our true intentions. It’s the agape love of God. For us to understand what love looks like, we must see it in action and attitude towards others as Jesus displayed this toward humanity through His compassionate acts of healing, acceptance of the sinner, his grief-stricken attitude of human disobedience and by Himself being a friend of outcasts and the rejected of the religious. Love imparts an eternal reality of life to humanity.
Can we put on display the very love of God and truly see love conquer all during this season? Let’s try so that the bright light of Christ can be seen by all!
Jason Protzman is an associate pastor at Living Word Fellowship in Dinuba.
Interestingly, the statement made
here and the corresponding with the supernatural birth that Christians celebrate that we “prepare.” Preparations made
for Christmas seem to never end until
the celebration either on Christmas Eve
for some, including this writer or on Christmas morning culminating in the giving and receiving of presents to signify the ultimate present to all of humanity,
