Herald staff report
The Four Chaplains’ Day interfaith service at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 2 p.m. on Feb. 9 will mark the 75th anniversary of when four heroic chaplains died after giving up their life jackets so others might live.
Early on the morning of Feb. 3, 1943, the U.S. Dorchester, once a passenger ship that had been converted to a troop transport, was steaming through icy seas off Greenland. Most of those aboard were asleep when a torpedo from the German submarine U-223 smashed into the ship’s flank.
The four Army chaplains aboard – all first lieutenants - Clark V. Poling, George L. Fox (both Protestant ministers), Alexander D. Goode (a rabbi) and John P. Washington (a Catholic priest) – began passing out life jackets and organizing an evacuation of the 902 soldiers, merchant seamen and civilians on board.
When the life jacket supply ran out, the chaplains removed their own and gave them to others. They then linked arms, sang hymns and prayed until they went down with the ship.
The four were awarded the Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross posthumous- ly.
In 1988, a unanimous act of Congress established Feb. 3 of each year as “Four Chaplains Day."
"Most American Legion Four Chaplains' services are held on Feb. 3, which marks
the actual anniversary of the sinking of the Dorchester. We draw so many statewide officers we decided to hold ours on Feb. 9
so we don't interfere with any of the other services," said Cheryl Ing of the state head- quarters of the American Legion Department of California in Sanger.
"Everyone is invited to attend," said Ing.

Four Chaplains Day Interfaith Service
CITATIONS: ... the California Supreme Court ruled unanimously that use of underage decoys is a valid tool of law enforcement ... Continued from page 1A
The penalty is a minimum $1000 fine and 24 hours of community service.
The Sanger police department is conduct- ing the compliance checks to reduce the availabilityofalcoholtominors. Statistics have shown that young people under the age of 21 have a higher rate of drunken driving
fatalities than the general adult population. Minor decoy operations have been con-
ducted by local law enforcement throughout the state since the 1980s. When the program first began, the violation rate of retail estab- lishments selling to minors was as high as 40 to 50 percent. When conducted on a routine
basis, the rate has dropped in some cities as low as 10 percent or even below.
In 1994, the California Supreme Court ruled unanimously that use of underage decoys is a valid tool of law enforcement to ensure that licensees are complying with the law.
This project is part of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Minor Decoy
/ Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin- istration.
“Don’t Just Give Up, Do Something!”
Dear Friends,
I could tell you story after story.
In my office, I see people who’ve refuse to give up. They didn’t accept the answers they’ve gotten before. They didn’t accept “there’s nothing we can do,” or “there’s actually nothing wrong with you.”
Many of the people who come to see me complain that they’ve been “everywhere” else, taken “every” test, and wound up with huge medical bills, and are still no better off. Often, they’ve been subjected to medications that have only served to temporarily mask symptoms.
Health, or the lack of it, very often has simple causes, and very reasonable corrections. That’s what I’m going to tell you about. But, before I tell you more, let me tell you something about me...
Here’s my story...
I was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1961. My father was en- listed in the Air Force. After years of active duty, he decided he wanted more in life. In 1961, he decided to leave the “military life”, and started chiropractic school.
In 1966, he graduated from Los Angeles College of Chi- ropractic.
Now you’re probably saying, what does that have to do with me? Well, being one of 3 children growing up with a chiropractic father, I was very fortunate to get regular adjust- ments. I was rarely sick or had the need to take medication. I grew to be a healthy adult. As I was growing up, my father would tell me about the patients he had treated that day and the “miracles” he witnessed. I think his stories had a profound effect on me. You see, I always enjoyed helping other people and chiropractic is a great way in which I could fulfill that need.
I decided to follow in my father’s footsteps. I graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1992. Working side- by-side with my father, I have witnessed my own miracles. Nothing is greater than knowing that I have made a differ- ence in so many lives.
For the last 40 years, people from Sanger and the sur- rounding area have come to see me with their problems. They also come to me with their:
• Headaches • Migraines • Chronic Pain • Neck Pain • Shoulder/Arm Pain • Whiplash from Car Accidents
• Backaches • Numbness In limbs • Fatigue • Athletic Injuries Just to name a few...
Here’s what some of your neighbors had to say:
“I was able to find the reason for my back pain after 15 years. After finding the cause I was provided relief from the chronic pain and a plan to continue healing.”
Allison Munoz
“First, I would like mention that Mr. Renaud and his office staff are awesome. They make you feel at home. With every visit there is a warm welcome with a nice conversation. I started seeing Dr. Renaud due to a numbing, tingling feel- ing along with pain in the middle of my back and chronic migraines. I had already gone to my primary doctor and nothing could be found or done besides giving me medicine and wanting to start injections. I refused thinking I would never get rid of this pain. It has been about 3.5 months and my symptoms have practically disappeared. Along, with my adjustments I gained knowledge. I had no clue as to the why aspect of it. This was shown/explained to me and I now understand the underlining of it all. Thank you Dr. Renaud and Ladies for taking good care of me.”
Jovita Martinez
During the month of November I went to see Dr. Renaud for pain in my back, shoulders, and legs that I had experi- enced for approximately 6 months. It was very uncomfort- able to sit and walk. I have been receiving treatments for 6 weeks and I now have very little pain and can perform daily tasks that were very difficult. I am looking forward to the continued progress!!! Thank you to the staff of Renaud Chiropractic!!!

I’m blessed that people often thank me for helping them with their health problems. But I can’t really take the credit. I’ve never healed anyone of anything. What I do is preform a specific spinal adjustment to remove nerve pressure, and the body responds by healing itself. Of course, all people
respond differently to care, but we get terrific results. It’s as simple as that!
Tens of millions Americans no longer have health in- surance, and those who do have found that their benefits are greatly reduced. That’s where chiropractic comes in. A seven-year study compared costs of people seeing medical providers vs. chiropractors. Overall the patients seeing chi- ropractors had 60% less hospitalization, 59% less days in the hospital, 62% less outpatient surgeries, and 85% less costs for prescription drugs.
Special Offer - Look, I know you’re smart. You want to get to the cause of your problem, and not just cover it up with drugs. So, when you call to schedule a new patient exam (by February 28, 2019) you’ll receive that entire exam for just $37.00. That’s with x-rays, the whole ball of wax, and there’s no hidden fees. But, call right away because we expect to be flooded with calls as this exam normally costs $269.00. this offer will expire (by law, this offer excludes beneficiaries of Federally funded health care programs like Medicare or Medicaid).
Our Goal is... to give you the best care we can possibly give you. You’ll get great care at a great fee. I’ve been en- trusted to take care of tiny babies to athletes that you may know. I just have that low exam fee to help more people who need care.
My assistants are Cynthia and Kimberly and they are re- ally great people. Our office is both friendly and warm and we try our best to make you feel at home. We have wonder- ful service, at an exceptional fee. Our office is called Renaud Chiropractic Clinic and it is located at 2637 Jensen, Suite C (in WalMart Shopping Center). We are open 5 days a week. Our phone number is 559-875-4000. Call Cynthia or Kim- berly today for an appointment. We can help you!
Thank you, and God Bless.
Fred Renaud, D.C.
P.S. When accompanied by the first, I am also offering the
second family member this same examination for only $17.
P.P.S. This is not (just) about back and neck pain. Yes, we help a lot of people with that, but the real purpose of chiro- practic is to remove interferences, allowing the body to heal itself. This is why I serve people of all ages, and people that couldn’t be helped elsewhere, may just be helped here.
P.P.P.S. Your time is as valuable as mine. That’s why we have a no-wait policy. You will be seen within minutes of your appointment.
P.P.P.P.S. Of course, all people respond differently to care. No doctor can ever guarantee a cure for any condition.
And it’s easier than you think...
