Two drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs were arrested during a checkpoint by the Sanger Police Depart- ment Traffic Safety Unit.
The checkpoint was held from 8- 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 on the 2500 block of Jensen Ave., followed by a zero- tolerance saturation patrol until 3 a.m. on Dec. 16.
DUI checkpoint details:
• 320 vehicles were screened at the checkpoint

• 67 vehicle stops were conducted during saturation
• 2 DUI-alcohol suspects arrested
• 6 field sobriety tests administered
• 3 drivers cited for oper- ating a vehicle unlicensed
• 2 drivers cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license
• 13 total citations issued

"Pairing checkpoints with a saturation detail is the most effective way to deter those who might have considered driving impaired while catch- ing those who do,” said Sgt. Joshua Johnson.
Drivers arrested for DUI can expect to pay more than $10,000 in fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses, as well as serving possible jail time.
Police have two more DUI operations planned before the end of the year, on Dec. 29 and Dec. 31.

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of a vacancy in the City Council District 1 seat. Any resident of District 1 interested in serving as a City Council Member and meeting the eligibility and residency requirements is hereby invited to submit an
application. The successful candidate will serve from the time of the appointment by the City Council until December 2020, completing the term of the vacant seat.

1) Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment. 2) Candidates must be a resident of District 1.
