SANGER HERALD 7A THURSDAY, JANUARY 3. 2019
By Dick Sheppard
Sanger Herald
The Sanger animal shelter is filled with many scared dogs who were abandoned by their humans and a few who just got lost and couldn't find their way back home.
Livi, a young pitbull girl, was found a couple of weeks ago wandering near the WAMS campus. "She gets along well with other dogs and does well on a leash,"
said shelter volunteer coordi- nator Kim Reed.
"It's so unfortunate that many mature dogs are aban- doned, just dumped on the side of the road, this time of year by people who wanted
a puppy for Christmas," said Kim. "Wehaveseveralwon- derful dogs who are probably here at the shelter for that reason. We don't know why Sarah and her puppies were abandoned in an orchard a
couple of weeks ago."
Sarah and one of her pup-
pies, Jennie, share a kennel at the shelter. Sarah is a very loving 3 year old brindle pitbull who wants constant reassuring hugs from Kim and the other volunteers.
Other dogs who spent Christmas at the shelter are:
• Mama, another young, sweet pitbull lady who had just had a litter and was ap- parently abandoned by the police station.
• Bear, who is about 8 years old, a shepherd mix. He's already up to date on shots, neutered and potty trained.
• Queenie, a 3 year old pitbull who loves water. She's up to date with shots and spayed.
• Cowboy, a 3 year old boxer/pitbull/pug mix who
loves laps and hugs.
Call animal control of-
ficer Mario Irazoqui at (559) 618-9071 or Kim at (559) 250- 5270 or message the Sanger Animal Shelter Facebook page and leave your email address to find about the adoption process. Let Mario or Kim know if you're able to provide a temporary foster home for any of the shelter dogs or if you are able to donate a warm blanket or
a doggy sweater because it gets cold inside the metal building that serves as the shelter on the city yard on North Avenue.
Fostering or adopting is critical right now. The shel- ter is full. Please help.
