After a two-year absence because of COVID-19, the annual Evan "Shoot" Medina Memorial Basketball Tourna- ment returns to Sanger.
The eighth annual tournament will take place Saturday, June 25, starting at 9 a.m. at Sanger High School gym- nasiums. There will be boys and girls competitive brackets on three courts, with championship games at 3:30 (boys) and 4 p.m. (girls).
The tournament is in memory of Evan "Shoot" Medina, a 2006 SHS graduate and three-sports letter win- ner who died in a car accident in Sep- tember 2012. At the time of his death, Evan had joined his father, Al, as the only father-son team to officiate in the Central Valley with the San Joaquin Valley Officials Association.

The Class of 2022 graduate batted .415 for the season
scoring a team-high 33 runs for the Lady Emps (17-11), and also 34 hits and 26 runs batted in while sharing the team lead with four home runs.

While the new Tri- County Conference is much the same as the previous Central Se- quoia League, one for- mer member no longer is part of the package — Dinuba High School.
The Emperors now
will be a member of the West Yosemite League, which includes Hanford and Lemoore High along with Tulare schools Tu- lare, Tulare Western and Mission Oak.
Like the Tri-County Conference, the new WYL schedule begins in Fall 2022.
WATER POLO
Because only sev- en schools in the TCC have water polo pro- grams, Granite Hills and Strathmore will be joining the TCC for wa- ter polo only. The sport will have a conference championship and will not be broken up into two leagues.
