What is Easter all about?

Did you know that U.S. candy makers produce 90 million chocolate bunnies and 16
million jelly beans for Easter each year? So is Easter all about the candy, Easter bunny and eggs? Now there’s nothing wrong with families getting together
for food, fellowship and games, but I am convinced
to eat roasted lamb, bitter herbs and unleavened bread on that day, and all the males went to Jerusalem to worship at the temple.
Now fast-forward 1,500 years to the year 31 A.D. Jesus asked His apostles
to prepare the Passover meal on a Thursday night. After supper, Jesus took the unleavened bread and grape juice that was used at the Passover meal and instituted what the Bible calls the Lord’s Supper.
After singing a hymn, Jesus and His apostles went to pray in a garden called Gethsemane, just outside the gates of Jerusalem. It was there that Jesus was arrested and brought before the High Priest and finally before Pontius Pilate, the Roman Governor in Jerusalem early Friday morning.
Pilate condemned Jesus to be hung
on a cross, and was crucified at about 8-9 a.m. Then at the ninth hour, or 2-3 p.m., Jesus died and His body was taken off the cross and placed in a cave-tomb that was nearby. Many people thought that was the end of Jesus, including His followers. No one really comprehended the meaning of Jesus’ words that He

would be crucified and rise again on the third day.
Jesus’ body rested in the tomb on the Sabbath, or second day. Then on the third day, or Sunday, before sunrise, a powerful angel descended from Heaven and rolled away the large stone that covered the tomb. All the Roman soldiers that were commanded to guard the tomb fell down as dead men and Jesus walked out of that tomb proclaiming that He was the resurrection and the life!
This is what Easter is all about: remembering the death and resurrection of the one who came to bring salvation to our world. Why not make Easter special this year by prayerfully reviewing this story found in the Bible. This isn’t just make-believe, but something real that can make a difference in your life. I invite you to experience it and to share it with others. God bless you.

that Easter, like Christmas, is also an opportunity
to reflect on the religious aspect of the holiday.
You see, Easter reminds us of something special that Jesus did for us. Jesus was a Jew
and faithfully observed a Jewish feast found in the Bible called the Passover. It was a religious holiday celebrated every year.
The Passover feast was given to the Israelites to remember the day that God freed them from being slaves in Egypt, a slavery that lasted 400 years. God commanded His people from then on
