Over this month in the Pastor’s Corner I’ve talked about the problem of addiction in our
society. We hear a lot about the opioid crisis, many of us know alcoholics or other drug addicts, but those are not the only kinds of things we are addicted to.
kindness, we know God is the source of that but as humans we need to experience it from other people.
Addicts need that loving kindness too, in order to overcome their addiction, at least according to Dr. Mate, it is more effective to give unconditional love, acts of kindness, to help the addict see that there is another way.
Is there a place for “tough love?” Well where I do see a reason for separating oneself from a drug or alcohol addict, might be someone very close to them, whose own pain at seeing their loved one hurt themselves, might lead them to some kind of destructive behavior. In other words, the family members should not have to bear the burden of being the loving community the addict needs, at least not alone.
This brothers and sisters, is where the Church (all of us who consider ourselves Christians) could step up to the plate. Of course specialist and doctors and treatment
Deharo added that over the past five years, crime has dropped steadily as a whole, by as much as 27 percent. The addition of video surveillance and home alarms, he said, has helped in the effort.
He also said that when it comes to commercial theft Walmart tends to be the most affected. Deharo explained that those numbers reflect the larger volume of people who go in and out of the store.
Of all the crimes in Dinuba, Deharo said robbery is the most concerning, as it continues to rise.
Harness believes the rise in property crime is a direct result of Proposition 47, which in essence decriminalized many felony property crimes.
“Studies show that since the passing of Prop 47 there has been an increase in larceny,” said Harness. “This affects our local businesses and our local public safety officers, who spend

plans are important for those addicted to substances, but one key ingredient is a community of support.
If you know the great love of God, if you have been freed from the power of your sin, if you have practice in sitting with your own pain, acknowledging it to God, and practice in being in loving relationships with those not in your family and sharing accountability for how you live (like at church) you are the person an addict needs. Church – the best church can be- people caring for others- could be a real help for those suffering in addiction. Being able to see that drugs and alcohol are only part of the problem, can help us stop scapegoating and looking down on them with shame, and help us get down to help the addict up, with kindness and human connection, in the power and freedom of Jesus Christ.

too much time taking calls from victims of brazen acts of theft.”
Bennani said the meeting was great for both the GAC and the community. And the move to the council chambers, he feels, will help establish a better connection between the committee and the community.
“Council members represent the members of their constituents,” said Bennani. “In the case of the GAC we represent the businesses that may not have representation.”
Bennani said the committee hears the crime report on a yearly basis.
Said Bennani, “Law enforcement is one of the necessary pillars that helps create a healthy environment. Having a safe community is important. It’s what encourages people to chose one community over another.”
The next GAC meeting will be held on Mar. 13 at 12 p.m. at the Dinuba City Hall council chambers.
Jesus, we know we have been set free from our sin to not just continue in our regular patterns, but in order to live in a new way. To be effective in that change in our lives, we need other people. We need loving

Many of us live with some kind of addiction, a crutch we turn to instead of processing our pain.

Additionally, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Air Patrol Unit is also used to curb crime in the county.
“Statistics indicate that when the air patrol unit is up, crime drops,” said Lehner.
And the TCSO UAV units (drones) are also used in crime fighting and search and rescue missions.
Presenting for the Dinuba Police Department was Detective Baldo Deharo, who first touched on the concerns of the downtown Dinuba merchants. Deharo encouraged the use of video cameras in all commerce.
“At the police department we are all for having video cameras downtown,” he stated. “That would be gold for us.”
He added that in the first case of the broken windows at Z’s Communication, video surveillance, coupled with DNA from blood left at the scene, resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
