The Reedley High Pirates stormed into first place in the North Yosemite League last week with two victories over the previous league leader, the Fresno High Warriors.
Reedley (14-3 through April 11) entered the week trailing Fresno by one game, but re- gained a share of the top spot on April 5 with a convincing 7-2 road win. Will Gagnon pitched a complete game seven-hitter with 10 strikeouts while go- ing 3-for-4 at the plate. Darren Ortiz, Jared Estala and Dustin Wang all added two hits.
On April 8, the Pirates re- ceived a complete game pitch- ing performance and two RBI from Brayden Rhodes to hold on for a 5-4 decision at RHS varsity diamond. Ortiz had three of the Pirates' six hits while Friedenburg scored a pair of runs.
Reedley now sits in the driver's seat for the league championship, having beat- en the Warriors in two of the three league meetings. Fresno won the first matchup by a 9-1 score on March 18.
The Pirates dropped their opener at the Fresno Easter Classic by a 14-2 score against Oakmont High from Roseville on April 11. Reedley had games on April 12 against Garces and Clovis East, then closed the tournament April 13 in Clovis against Central High.
Sanger High split its two County Metro Athletic Con- ference games last week, both against Madera. The Apaches dropped a 3-1 road decision on April 5 — their second straight
after having gained a tie for first place — and then jumped to a 6-0 lead before hanging on for a 6-5 home win on April 8. Madera pushed across four runs in the seventh inning be- fore Sanger finished off the victory.
The Apaches competed at the 37th annual PT Tulare- Visalia Invitational earlier this week. closing out action on April 13 with a game in Visa-
lia against Independence High from Bakersfield. Sanger had earlier tourney games against Tulare Western, Tehachapi and Mt. Whitney.
In the Central Sequoia League, Immanuel moved into a tie for first place with wins over Selma (4-3 on April 5) and at Hanford West (8-5 on April

  PREPS ROUNDUP
RC baseball sweeps West Hills, tied for fourth in CVC
By Will Goldbeck
For The Times
After sweeping three games over West Hills Coal- inga, the Reedley College baseball Tigers play two non- conference games this week before returning to Central Valley Conference play on Tuesday, April 19.
At this writing, the Tigers are tied for fourth place with Taft in the conference (Reed- ley is 9-8 in the CVC and 18-
12 overall) with one round remaining. Each team plays a conference team once in the final round. Reedley draws a trip to Coalinga to face West Hills on April 19.
The Tigers hosted Bakers- field in non-conference action on April 12 before heading to Bakersfield on April 13.
Reedley had to rally from a 6-2 deficit to finish the sweep over West Hills at Tiger Field on April 9. Four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning
did the trick as Isaiah Ochoa’s third hit of the game drove in Leo Arrequin with the go- ahead run.
Arrequin drove in five runs in an 11-2 win over the Falcons on April 5 with a home run and a triple. Nilen Peoples added two doubles and a single to the attack.
On April 7, Roman Rosales had three hits to lead the Ti-
gers to a 12-2 victory.
SOFTBALL Tigers' loss streak at nine games
Instead of getting better at the end of the season, the Reedley College Tiger softball team is struggling.
With four games remain- ing, Reedley suffered its ninth straight loss on April 9 in an 11-0 defeat against the Porterville College Pirates in Reedley. The Tigers travel to Porterville for an April 12
doubleheader before ending the season at home on Tues- day, April 26, with a 1 p.m. home twinbill against Merced College.
In addition to the loss to Porterville, the Tigers suffered run rule 9-1 and 12-3 losses to the College of the Sequoias on April 5 and a 6-0 loss on the road against Taft College.
The losses dropped Reed- ley to 2-9 in Central Valley Conference action and 8-19 overall.
