The defensive star of Reedley College’s 2002 JC national champions — Dwayne Slay — along with the offensive and defensive field generals for the Tigers’ two-time conference champion- ship teams in 2004 and 2005 — quarterback Ter- ry Mayo and linebacker Josh Yarbrough — are part of a nine-member list of inductees this year to the college’s Ath- letics Hall of Fame.
The Class of 2022 will be honored at a din- ner banquet on Saturday, July 30, at the RC cafete- ria. The 29th annual cer- emony is the first since 2019, with the last two events canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Joining Slay, Mayo and Yarbrough is fellow RC football player Ernie Rodriguez (1995-1997)), volleyball standout Am- ber Spino-Finegan (1997- 99), men’s golfer Jason McKelvie (1998-2000), baseball player David Park (1967-69), women’s tennis star Yumiko Jus- tin-Sturdivant (2008-10) and Duane Gustafson (meritorious service).
Defensive back Slay helped the Tigers post a 21-2 record, highlighted by a 12-0 mark and na- tional title in 2002. The three-star recruit ended up as the fourth-rated juco DB in the nation during his stint with the Tigers, and later was Big 12 Defensive Play- er of the Year at Texas Tech while earning All- American status. He later played profession- ally in the Arena League and Canadian Football League, and is a member of the Texas Tech Hall of Fame.
Mayo quarterbacked the Tigers to a 10-1 re- cord in 2005, finishing fourth among JC passers in California with 2,474 yards and 22 touch- downs and earning first team all-Central Val- ley Conference honors, Yarbrough was the CVC

Kerman High prod- uct Spino-Finegan earned all-state and all-Northern California All-American as the out-
side hitting specialist on the Tigers’ 23-2 con- ference champions in 1998. Rodriguez earned all-conference honors at quarterback for RC dur- ing 1995-96 as the team underwent a football renaissance. He’s also renowned for recruiting Josh Allen to RC during one of his three stints as an assistant coach at the
college.
