Emperors pick up the pace
DHS captured the opening set 25-20 before the Eagles won the second set 22-25, but the Emperors closed out the match winning the next two sets 25-19, 25-23.
Allyson Garcia paced Dinuba with a match-high 19 kills and Azlynn Villalobos added nine kills. Kirsten Martinez contributed seven kills and two blocks.
Amanda Valdez finished the match with three service aces and Alexa Garcia had two service aces.
On Oct. 2 at Selma, DHS put away their rivals 25-23, 25-14, 25-21.
Alexa Garcia led the team with six kills and 10 digs and teammate Kaelyn Barrera had five kills and two digs.
Martinez had four kills, two blocks and six digs, while Ally Garcia recorded four kills, nine digs and five blocks.

Momentum is on Dinuba High’s side after a great showing at this past weekend’s Hoover Tournament.
The Emperors finished the tourney with a 5-1 record falling to eventual champion Eleanor Roosevelt High School of Eastvale in the semifinals, 25-23, 25-23.
Dinuba defeated Golden West twice, McLane, Mt. Whitney and Tulare Union, according to coach Michele Burner.
The Emperors, who are 14-8 overall and 4-4 in Central Sequoia League, have picked up the pace and with it more victories that included a 3-1 decision over visiting Immanuel on Thursday evening.

Roosevelt High felt the brunt of Dinuba’s frustration on the last day of the Sunnyside Tournament.
The Emperors, who were on the short end of two close losses earlier in the tourney, coasted to a 13-2 win over the Roughriders on Saturday.
“We were able to finally bring it together,” stated coach Sergio Hernandez. “If we played like how we played in the second half in all the games, we would’ve been dominant.”

The Dinuba High girls tennis team lost their final regular season match at home against Central Valley Christian, 9-0, on Monday. The Emperors will play again tomorrow in the Central Sequoia League Championships that will be held at the Immanuel High Sports Complex.

In the junior varsity boys race Christian Esquibel was eighth overall in a time of 20:49.40 and in the freshman boys race Nelson Aponte was 38th in 24:45.65.
The varsity girls team dominated the team race placing all five runners in the top-eight.
Luz Diaz won the race in 20:31.75 and Jackie Delgado was second in 21:17.38.

The team will be taking part in tomorrow’s Rough Rider Invitational at Woodward Park, according to coach Lucas Lichtenwaldt.
A late decision to not run in the prestigious Clovis Invitational didn’t dampen the spirits of the Dinuba High cross country team.
Instead, the Emperors changed gears taking part in the Sierra Pacific Milky Way 5K Invitational held on Friday in Hanford.
Dinuba went on to sweep the individual boys and girls varsity races with the girls team winning the team title.

Dinuba High quarterback Josh Magaña had the hot hand and the Emperors defense was dominating.
The Emperors bounced back from last week’s setback against Central Valley Christian with a 35-0 shutout win over rival Selma Friday night in Selma.
The win sets up a big game at home against Kingsburg tomorrow night. The Vikings enter on the heels of handing Central Valley Christian a 19-16 loss.

Orosi High School’s 1-2 running back combination of Ismael Perez and Jerry Huerta proved to be too much for the Fowler High Redcats defense as the Cardinals went on to a 28-12 West Sequoia League win Friday evening.
As a team, Orosi finished the game with 418 yards, 361 on the ground. The Cardinals controlled the game on both sides of the ball dominating time of possession (38:48-9:01) and first downs (25-7) while holding the Redcats to 150 yards of offense.
