Sanger Police Department
Sanger police officers were dis- patched to the 1900 block of 3rd St. shortly before 9 a.m. on March 7 to respond to a report of domestic violence between a male and female.
Ric Ortiz, 21, had reportedly struck his ex-girlfriend in the face causing her injuries before fleeing the scene.
When officers located Ortiz he refused to follow commands before run- ning from them.
After a short foot chase, Ortiz abruptly stopped in the middle of Jensen Avenue and turned towards the officers. He challenged them to fight
him while yelling, “Shoot me, Shoot me, just kill me!”
Officers used tasers to subdue Ortiz and were able to prevent any injury to him, police, or the public.
Ortiz, who was in possession of a knife is on felony probation for other violent crimes.
He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on multiple felony charges, including domestic violence and resist- ing arrest.
Ortiz also had an outstanding felony warrant.
The victim of the assault was treated for her injuries and was provided with victim assistance information.
