Orosi girls thump Minarets
Sentinel staff report
A 23-11 third quarter all but erased any thoughts of a Minarets comeback as the Orosi High girls basketball team thumped visiting Minarets in a West Sequoia League win Monday night, 69-40.
The victory snapped a four game losing streak as Orosi improved to 8-11 overall and 4-1 in league while the Mustangs dropped to 3-14 and 1-4 in league play.
OHS got out quickly with an 18-7 first quarter lead.
The Cardinals had entered the game coming off a 58-21 loss at Caruthers. The Blue Raiders are 15-4 and atop the WSL standings at 5-0.
On Jan. 8, in a non-league road game against Shafter, the Generals held the Cardinals to single digits in each quarter and went on to post a 53-24 win.
Orosi will be on the road tomorrow evening as the Cardinals are set to battle Riverdale.
The Orosi High girls basketball team ended a four-game losing streak with a 69-40 win over Minarets.

Lopez scored 12 of her 16 points in the third quarter for Dinuba who improved to 12-9 overall and 3-2 in league while CVC drops to 7-11 and are still looking for their first league win.
Up 10-6 after the first quarter, Dinuba outscored the Cavailers 21-12 in the second and led 31-18 at half.
“We put a lot of pressure early and got some points out of it,” said DHS coach Benny Prado. “We came out with some energy, got out and ran.”
Prado said the quick start was also a key to victory.
“We have a bad habit of starting off slow,” Prado said.
Kaylee Villasenor had eight points and Azlynn Villalobos finished the game with six.

the heels of a tough loss at Reedley on Saturday. DHS trailed 62-61 with less than 10 seconds remaining and missed three opportunities to steal the victory but came up short as the Lady Pirates prevailed.
“Reedley went on a big run in the third quarter but we were cold and shot too many 3-pointers,” Prado said. “We got back into the game with a few 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. We had our chances but we gave up too many second chance points.”
Lopez paced the team with 12 points, according to Prado.
On Jan. 8 against Kingsburg, Dinuba held a slim 15-11 halftime lead before the Vikings outscored the Emperors 37-19 in the second half for a 48-34 victory.
Yasmine Villareal-Harris scored all of her 16 points in the first half as Dinuba cruised to a win over Central Valley Christian Monday night.

Dinuba High’s girls basketball team got back on the winning track against Central Valley Christian.
After two setbacks earlier in the week, the Emperors used a second quarter run while dominating both ends of the court in a 57-34 Central Sequoia League win at home Monday night.

noted that a win was within reach against the Cavaliers, but missed opportunities came back to play a role in the outcome.
“Sometimes we dominated the game but they were a little bit shy of taking shots today,” Diaz said. “Honestly, the intensity was there, the heart was there and they hustled all the way to the end. I’m so proud of them even though the score was 1-1.”
Dinuba’s Maddie Soto was credited with the first goal on an unusual play when a CVC defender had controlled the ball with both her legs in front of their goal. The ball got loose, trickled back to the goalie, who batted the ball back out only for it to be deflected back in for a score.

The Dinuba High girls soccer team was looking for a win on Monday night against visiting Central Valley Christian but had to settle for a 1-1 tie.
It’s an outcome that won’t move the Emperors forward in the Central Sequoia League standings as they are 3-1-1 and 8-4 overall, and it makes the upcoming matches more important as the post season is just a few weeks away. Dinuba was scheduled to play Exeter (5-5-1 and 4-1 in CSL) last night and will travel to play Hanford West tomorrow

With just four matches remaining in the season, the Orosi High soccer team looks to stay among the leaders in the West Sequoia League when the Cardinals travel to face Riverdale tomorrow night and Parlier on Tuesday.
Orosi is 4-1 in league play, tied with Parlier as both teams remain a game behind Riverdale. The Cowboys edged the Cardinals in their first encounter back in December.

Senior David Pina beat a Minarets defender on his way to scoring one of his six goals as Orosi rolled to a 10-0 West Sequoia League win at home Monday.

Quevedo heading into their match up will be playing conditions as heavy rain is expected in the forecast the remainder of the week.
“I really hope it doesn’t rain until after we play,” Quevedo said. “The field can get kind of slippery.”
Quevedo said the team may have been a little overconfident in their match against the Cowboys and will need to score more.
“We fell behind and tried to come back, but it was too late,” Quevedo said. Right now the team is firing on all cylinders as Orosi had no problem with
visiting Minarets Monday night. The Cardinals scored eight first half goals in a 10-0 win over the Mustangs.
“We played alot of guys who were on the bench in the second half,” Quevedo said.
After a few near misses at goal in the opening minutes, Orosi settled down as the Cardinals were led in scoring by senior David Pina, who finished with six goals. Classmate Antonio Lupian finished with two goals and sophomore Aidan Rodriguez and freshman Kevin
