Julie Ann Odom passed away on May 17, 2022 at the age
of 80 in her home in Sanger, CA. Julie was born in Sanger, California September 23, 1941 to Julius and Lora Rockel. She attended Sanger schools, graduating from Sanger High School in 1959. On October 16th, 1960 she married her husband Clay. Their daughter, Janell, was born in Sanger, California in 1970. Julie is survived by her husband Clay, her daughter Janell, her daughter-in-law
Kimberly, and her sister Jackie Mattison.
Julie built a career as a medical records technician
working for Valley Medical Center. Upon retirement, Julie never slowed down. She volunteered at Hinds Hospice, was a member of the Sanger Women’s Club, was active in Mary Kay and could always be seen on the pool deck at Sanger High School cheering on the girl’s water polo team that her daughter Janell was coaching. Julie’s tenure as a team mom spanned several decades.
She was a dedicated grandmother to Hunter, Jax and Drew attending their events as much as possible. She spent every summer at the family cabin Clay built making sure her grandchildren had everything they could ever want. There was always a drawer full of goodies for them to choose from. While at Courtright, the C&J cabin was the place to gather for games. Julie was always up for a game of Phase 10 and Rummikub with her friends and family. The family will carry on this tradition and ensure that future Odom’s share her love of friendly competition.
Julie’s dedication to the Sanger High Girl’s water polo team is unmatched. The family has created a Julie Odom Memorial Scholarship and is asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Sanger High Girl’s Water Polo and sent to:
