Familiar opponent awaits Dinuba in a semi nals playo game in Tulare Sentinel staff report
The Dinuba High football team will get a shot at top-seeded Tulare tomorrow night as the two teams square off in a big Division II section semifinals game.
The Emperors and Tribe played in the Valley Championship game last season as the Tribe went on to claim the crown, 49-21.
Dinuba enters the game on the heels of an easy opening win at home against West Yosemite League champion, Hanford, 41-14. Tulare (11-0) jumped
out to a 20-3 lead over Garces before holding off a second half rally by the Rams in a 34-27 win.
“Our kids are excited to play Tulare Union,” stated Dinuba head coach Kevin Scharton. “They are the defending Div. 2 Valley Champions. Defensively, they bring a lot of pressure and swarm to the ball. Offensively, they throw a lot and get the ball to their players in space. It will be a tough challenge but our boys will be ready for the challenge!”
In their game against Hanford, the Emperors simply dominated the Bullpups on both sides of the ball. Dinuba jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead on a pair of short touchdown runs by running back Joshua Martinez. Quarterback Josh Magaña opened the second quarter with a 31-yard touchdown scoring play to wide receiver Jacob Huerta. Magaña

Girls team in the mix for a Valley title at today’s section championships
The Emperors girls, who have been ranked in the top-five the entire season, head into the Valley meet ranked No. 2 in Division 3, behind Wasco, just ahead of Reedley and Edison. Dinuba has momentum heading into this afternoon’s race after a solid performance at the CSL meet.
“The CSL championship was a great race to prepare us for the Valley meet,” said coach Luke Lichtenwaldt. “Both the boys and the girls ran some really good races. Everyone ended the race feeling strong and each person worked on something specific that will help them in the next race.”
Lichtenwaldt says the Emperors are really excited about the Valley Championships.
