Superintendent's
goals point toward
mission statement
School district moves forward in their efforts to end cycle of generational poverty
the district should provide the best educational environment for all student subgroups.
The second goal of the superintendent is to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for both students and staff. Hernandez indicated in his report that this year the district will be focusing more on behavioral intervention programs. The district is using a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program that is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
All sites in the district have reportedly implemented the high quality programs. In addition, the district also implemented a more stringent drug testing policy. Combined with counseling services, Hernandez hopes these things will help ensure safer schools throughout the district.
The third goal on Hernandez’s list of goals for this year is creating a successful communication strategy. Hernandez’s vision for communication will provide primary and credible sources of information to the community about the district and its schools.
And Hernandez’s fourth goal is to deepen the district’s understanding of generational poverty and its implications for realizing the district’s vision. In deepening their understanding, Hernandez hopes the district will be better suited to maximize student achievement and ultimately be on its way to ending generational poverty.

A district-wide solar project is currently underway, a project that will ultimately translate to large scale energy savings
15 years and the district will realize revenue after that, stated Valdez.
“The added amenity is that most of our parking lots will be shaded and a few of our playgrounds will also be shaded,” Valdez said. “Our school board is progressive and aggressive in moving our district into the 21st century, academically and in terms of facilities.”
Palm Elementary School should be completed by the end of the week while El Monte Middle School, Cutler Elementary and the district area are projected to be completed in two weeks.
Golden Valley will start this week and have a four-to-five-week completion time while the Orosi High School staff parking area will be complete Oct. 5. The student parking area will start on that day and may take up to 5 weeks for completion time.
The plan is to have all solar sites running by mid-December or sooner.

Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District is installing solar panels at various school sites and a few are near completion.
The solar projects will consist of solar carport structures and solar shade structures in the parking lots of schools and within the fields of play areas of the school sites. The CJUSD school board felt that the project will bring energy savings and clean energy solutions that is needed in Cutler-Orosi, according to superintendent Yolanda Valdez.
“Our district was researching and investigating solar projects for the last three years,” Valdez stated. “We contacted several districts who have installed solar projects and the consensus was the projects deliver the energy savings they promise.”
