DHS picks up momentum

The Dinuba High track and field team hosted the annual St. Patrick’s Day Classic on Mar. 13 as the Emperors had several athletes take first in their respective events.
Brian Ortuno-Campbell won the triple jump with a mark of 41-feet-5 inches to lead a 1-2 finish with Ervyn Ruelas (34-4). Ortuno-Campbell also won the high jump (5-10) and ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that was second in 3:45.39. Rounding out the rest of that relay squad were Danny Aurajo, Adrian Garcia and Diego Estrada.
Thrower Estevan Diaz turned in a great performance as Diaz was a double winner in the shot put (43-2) and discus (129-0). Teammate Rafael Sanchez also did well as he placed third in the shot (34-4) and was sixth overall in the discus (97-08).

at St. Patrick’s
Day Classic
in the 110 hurdles in 19:45, fourth in the 200 in a time of 24.83 and seventh in the 200 (12:19). Mendoza ran the opening leg of the 4x100 relay that was third in 46.73. Other members of the relay team were Michael Wilson, Francisco Alberto and Angel Lopez.
Jonathan Padilla placed 4th in the 1,600 in 4:51.72 while Estrada was sixth in 4:581.13 and Aurajo was eighth (5:11.23). Estrada also was 5th in the 800 (2:13.01) and Aurajo was 13th in 2:24.89.
Yazmine Villareal-Harris captured the shot put (33-04 1⁄2) and 2nd in the discus (88-06). Felicia Vela was 3rd in both events with marks of 27-4 1/2 and 85-7.
In the 100 hurdles, Natalie Duran was 1st in 20:81 and Karina Vieyra was 3rd in 21:18 while Kaelyn Barela was 4th in 21:30. Vieyra also won the triple jump with a mark of 28-04 and Kathryn Arreola was 3rd at 27-6. Duran was

The Dinuba High swim team is in full swing with a handful of meets under their belt including a dual meet at home against visiting Fowler on Monday afternoon.
The Emperors opened the dual meet with a sweep in the 200 yard medley girls race as the team of Natalie Ceballos, Mikenna Curtis, Vanessa Hernandez and Angelina Arreola had a time of 2 minutes, 16.78 seconds. Placing second was the team of Vivana Contreras, Danielle Shin, Anissa Rodriguez and Alex Lacy, who were timed in 2:27.15 and the third place team of Leanne Nunez, Samantha Medina, Ayana Lopez and Jazmine Hernandez were timed in 2:42.57.
In the 200 free, DHS posted another sweep led by Contreras (2:45.49), Aleesha Hernandez (2:46.81) and L. Nunez (3:05.38). Later in the meet, DHS went 1-2-3 in the 200 fly as A. Lacy won the race in 1:19.13. J. Hernandez and L. Nunez had times of 1:30.09 and 1:43.89.
M. Curtis and V. Hernandez were 1-2 in the 200 IM with times of 2:43.22 and 2:58.88 and each swam a leg on the winning 200 free relay team that posted a time of 2:00.13. Other members of the relay were A. Lopez and A. Arreola.
In the 100 back, N. Ceballos won the race in 1:18.40 and V. Contreras was 2nd in a time of 1:29.32.
In the boys 200 IM, Bryce Bayle won the event in 2:38.61 and he was 2nd in the 100 yard back in 1:22.41.
Michael Vassylenko captured the
100 breaststroke in 1:12.63 and he was 2nd in the 200 (2:11.19) and 500 free (6:15.88).
In a meet against Immanuel and host Selma on Mar. 12, Bayle took first in the 200 IM in 2:42.15 and was 2nd in the 100 back (1:27.61). Vassylenko also won the 100 breast in 1:13.26 and 2nd in the 200 (2:18.44) and 500 free (6:21.42). In the 50 free, Mateo Plascencia was 2nd in 28.24 and Rafael Amezola was fourth in 30:36.
The 200 MR team of Ceballos, Curtis, V. Hernandez and Arreola took 2nd in 2:19.85. Curtis took 2nd in the 200 IM in 2:43.38 and 3rd in the 100 breast in 1:27.71.
V. Hernandez, Ceballos and A. Rodriguez were 4th, 5th and 6th place with times of 29.86, 29.98 and 30.34.

bottom half of the opening inning off of starting pitcher Juliana Flores for a quick 2-0 lead. Dinuba responded with five runs in the top of the second inning to go up 5-2. The lead didn’t last long as Selma pushed across five runs in the bottom of the frame and four in the bottom of the third for a commanding 11-5 lead.

had a double and finished the game with two hits and an RBI.
Christina Wallace had the hot-bat for Selma as the junior went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in four runs as the Bears pounded out 15 hits.

Facing their rivals, the Dinuba High softball team fell to the host Selma Bears late Friday afternoon, 11-6, in a Central Sequoia League game.
The Emperors suffered their first loss of the season after 11 straight wins while Selma moved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in league.

Late rally ruins upset bid

The Orosi High baseball team was in position to pull off the biggest wins of the season. But in the end visiting Minarets scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to post a 4-2 win Friday afternoon in a West Sequoia League game.
The Mustangs (8-2) had to rally from a 2-0 deficit after five innings and tied it at 2-all with two runs in the sixth.
Orosi took the early lead scoring twice in the bottom half of the third inning. The Cardinals are now 2-6-1 overall and 0-2 in WSL play.
The Cardinals were scheduled to face winless Parlier late Tuesday afternoon in Parlier.
Orosi entered their game against Minarets on the heels of a 7-1 loss to Caruthers.
The Blue Raiders had a 1-0 lead in the top half of the third before Orosi scored a run to tie the game. Caruthers then scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings.
Orosi’s offense couldn’t get on track and in the top of the seventh Caruthers managed to score four runs for the victory.
