on to share how his wife had two family members die from cancer in one year, one of which he found himself present in the relative's house when she died and seeing family members saying good bye.
That same year Cabrera had a family member in Dinuba, Karen Kinnerly, who also passed away and left a young daughter behind.
“Why? Why!?” He asked. “I still ask myself that today. But despite all of this that gets me so mad, so sad and angry... there’s still that hope. That is why we’re here today... It could be me tomorrow that’s going through this. We’ve got to be here together to support each other. We’ve got to be here together to raise money for research, so that our kids don’t have to know about this, so that our kids don’t have to go through losing a loved one.”
Cabrera ended his comments with a plea to the crowd to support the survivors in

2018 Results
To date, the Dinuba Relay For Life event has raised $61,000. Fundraising is year round and 2018 totals will be accepted through Aug. 31.
Funds were raised in Dinuba and the surrounding communities through donations from family and friends, business sponsors and several fundraisers including raffles, yard sales, coin can collections, a 5K run, a silent auction, Bark For Life and more.
Over 14 years the Dinuba Relay For Life events have raised a cumulative total of $1.4 million to benefit the American Cancer Society.
This year’s main event featured 22 teams.
More than 225 people participated with an additional 350 estimated in attendance. Approximately 90 survivors attended the
event, many participating on teams. Approximately 2,200 Luminarias lined
the track.
Thirty-four hair donations were made to
help create wigs for cancer patients. Pose Salon donated their time to cut the hair.
The 2018 Event co-leads were Luisa Sanchez, Angie Arroyo, Karen Fier and Trinidad Rodriguez.
The award winners were announced at the closing ceremony on Saturday night.
