Garcia, Carlee Newlin, Felicity Morales and Kirsten Martinez all had solo homeruns.
The Lady Emps then made a statement on Tuesday by barreling through Immanuel in a very one-sided performance. Dinuba managed to cycle through their batting rotation at will throughout the entire game, while simultaneously nearly shutting out the Eagles defensively.
Dinuba took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, after going through their entire lineup. They followed that with a 10-run second inning that included a three-run homer by Newlin.
Two other Lady Emps would homer in the game, Garcia, who had a two-run homer in the fourth inning, and Faith Hernandez with a solo shot over center field in the same inning.
“We just need to keep rising,” said Patterson. “Rising to the occasion... We’re clicking at the right time.”
The team’s next matchup is a league season finale at Exeter tomorrow afternoon. With the Lady Emps now controlling their own destiny, a win against the Lady Monarchs would secure them at least a share of the CSL championship.
Said Patterson, “It’s going to be big come Friday.”
Tomorrow’s game against Exeter starts at 4 p.m.
Playoffs start next week, and being that Dinuba is currently the No. 1 ranked team in the Central Section’s Division III, chances are the Lady Emps will have a first round bye. With a bye, Dinuba would need to win two games to get a chance to play for a Valley title.

Pirates’ Eric Contreras, of Dinuba baseball’s Majors Division, was the closer for Monday’s game against the Giants. Contreras struck out two consecutive batters to allow the Pirates to escape with a 11-9 victory. Monday’s matchup between the Pirates and the Giants was the first game played this season at Roosevelt Park. Games had previousely been postponed due to a fallen light post, and others needing to be replaced. The posts, removed last week, can be seen in the background.

the-park homerun, it appeared the former may soon happen. It appeared even more so when the Pirates soon found themselves facing bases loaded with only one out.
It was at this point that Lara made his second pitching change, bringing in Eric Contreras to close out the game. Contreras took two batters to full counts before giving up two runs on walks.
With a two-run lead and bases still loaded, Contreras zeroed in and began to attack the strike zone. Two consecutive strikeouts later and the Pirates were victorious in this season’s first game at Roosevelt Park.
The game came after a whirlwind of postponements for the City of Dinuba’s Parks and Recreation Department. The opening ceremonies for this year’s season were supposed to take place back on April 7, but a downpour of rain cancelled that event and postponed the season’s first games.
Then, on the very day the league’s first games were to be played at the park, a strong gust of wind knocked over an already- weathered light post, again postponing games at Roosevelt Park.
After a thorough inspection of all the park’s posts was conducted, it was determined that there were other posts
to make a further decision to postpone even more games at the park for the safety of the players and community.
This left City of Dinuba’s Athletic Coordinator Richard DeOcio scrambling to find locations for the league’s biggest roster in years.
“It’s certainly been a challenge,” said DeOcio.
The season is currently about three weeks behind schedule but DeOcio has managed to find fields for all 31 teams in both baseball and softball. Some games are still currently being held at Felix Delgado Park, and with the cooperation of Dinuba’s Cal Ripken league commissioner Jose Guido, games have also been played at KC Park.
All light posts at Roosevelt Park were removed last week, leaving the both fields without night lights but also making them safe to play on. So while the city of Dinuba looks into the most cost effective way to replace the park’s light posts, day games will resume at Roosevelt Park.
Tomorrow the baseball Major’s division will take the field again at Roosevelt Park. Only one game will be played at the park tomorrow. The game begins at 6 p.m.

It was a month overdue, and it was done without light posts, but the first game of Dinuba’s city league baseball was finally played at Roosevelt Park this past Monday, with the Pirates of the Major’s division coming away with an 11-9 victory over the Giants.
The Pirates, coached by Juan Lara, took an early 4-2 lead in the second inning and then ran it up to 7-2 in the third. The Giants, however, managed to walk their way to a 7-6 deficit in the third inning. But Pirates pitcher Jason Moreno, who came into the game to relieve pitcher Xavier Orosco, finally locked into the zone to strike out three straight batters, escaping the inning with a one-run lead.
In the fourth inning, Pirates Gio Cuevas was able to come home after a pass ball while he was attempting to steal third base. Jeremiah Tellez added the Pirates ninth run of the game, and the second of four in the inning for his team.
With an 11-6 lead and time, and light, expiring, the Giants needed another rally and the Pirates needed to close the game out.
Dinuba’s 4x100 relay team took second place in league competition. The team was made up of Arnel Bergonia, Devon Mendoza, Brian Ortuno Campbell and Josh Huerta. They finished with a time of 45.98 seconds.
In field competition, Dinuba High senior Alex Sandoval showed once again why has one of the strongest arms in the Valley by once again taking first place in the shot put event. Sandoval threw for 51’03.25”, more than seven feet further than second place finisher Nicolas Tangonan of Exeter.
Teammate Adam Aguilar took
third place in the discus event with a throw of 127’03”. He also finished seventh in the shot put event with a throw of 40’0.5”.
In the high jump event, Ortuno Campbell finished in second place with a jump of 5’08”. He also finished in fourth place in the triple jump event with a jump of 39’0.5”.
Bergonia finished in fourth place in the long jump event, setting a personal record with a jump of 19’09”.
In girls competition, Dinuba High’s long distance runners and the strong arm of sophomore Yazmine Villarreal Harris were the Emperors’ highlights.
The Lady Emperors represented three of the top five finishes in the 1600-meters race. Dinuba High sophomore Jackie Delgado was the top finisher, taking second place with a time of 5:37.18. Teammate Jasmine Jorge finished just behind her in third place with a time of 5:47.80, a personal record for Jorge. And freshman Ali Ontiveras also set a personal record, finishing the race in 5:53.00 for a fifth place finish.
Delgado also finished in second place in the 3200-meters race. Her effort in the event was her best time yet, finishing the race in 12.28.35.
The Dinuba High track team competed in the California Interscholastic Federation Central Section’s Division II Championships yesterday at Exeter High School. The Emperors’ boys track team looked to repeat as Valley champions, and win their third Valley title in the past four years. A total of 47 high schools competed in yesterday’s Valley championships.
The Division II Championships took place after publication. Results will be published in next week’s Sentinel.
