Dinuba boys' soccer keeps rolling

The Sanger High varsity boys’ basketball team controlled the first three quarters of their league opener at Edison High on Jan. 14, extend- ing a 38-35 halftime lead to 48-40 lead as the two teams entered the final
quarter. But the Tigers did their best work in the fourth quarter, out- scoring the Apaches 23- 15 to tie the game (73-73) and force overtime pe- riod where Edison stole their first CMAC game of season, 82-78.
Three Apaches scored in double figures
in their overtime loss to the Tigers, includ- ing junior Luke Dillon who finished with 33 points and also had 11 rebounds for a double- double. Jon Dillon also finished with a double- double, as the sopho- more had 16 points and 16 rebounds. Sanger High senior Alejandro Mendibles scored 12 points while going 3-for- 3 from beyond the arc.
Edison had five players finish in double figures, with senior Obadiah Curtis lead- ing all scores with 22 points. Tigers’ sopho- more Charles Bailey III and junior Jeremiah Hannah both scored 16 points, with Han- nah also pulling in 13 rebounds for a double- double.
Also scoring double digits for Edison were sophomore Tyrece Fairly (13 points) and junior Avery Johnson (12 points).
The Apaches got back on track on Fri- day, Jan. 17, in an away league game at Madera South. Coming off his previous performance of 33 points, L. Dillon unleashed against the

Sanger High junior puts up 86 points over two games

The Dinuba High boys soccer team continues to roll as the Emperors re- mained perfect in Central Sequoia League play after a 2-0 win over Exeter Fri- day night.
Jorge Duran and Juan Gutierrez each scored a goal in the win.
Dinuba is 15-3-2 overall and 7-0 in league. The Em- perors have captured 13 of their last 14 matches and are on a seven-match win streak heading into this week’s action.
Coach Ramiro Rodri- guez said defensively the team has given up one goal in league play.
Goalie Hilde Chavez along with a strong sup- porting cast loaded with returners has the Emper- ors on track to defend their
CSL crown.
“We have a lot of play-
ers coming back from last year,” Rodriguez said. “Ev- erybody knows the offense and what to do.”
Rodriguez said Friday’s game against Exeter, the Monarchs made some ad- justments from their first encounter.
“They know what we were going to do,” he said. “So in practice, we’re going to switch it up a little.”
Dinuba has multiple players that score at any time and that was evident in a 10-1 win over visiting Central Valley Christian.
Duran scored three goals and Diego Rico added two as the Emperors raced out to a 4-1 halftime lead.
“Everybody has been putting it in the net,” Ro- driguez said.
Also scoring for Dinuba were Gutierrez, Alan Gallo,
Jose Ramirez, Jose Chavez and Bryan Garcia.
In a 3-1 win over Fresno Christian on Jan. 9, Gutier- rez led the way with a pair of goals. Duran and Rico each scored a goal in the second half.
On Friday, Jan. 24, Di- nuba will face rival Selma at 4:30 p.m. The match will be played at the Immanuel High Sports Complex, ac- cording to Rodriguez.
DHS girls fall to
Exeter and CVC
Exeter High scored four first half goals as the Dinuba High girls soccer team never recovered in a 4-1 setback on Friday night.
The Lady Emperors (5-9-2, 2-5) received a goal from Crystal Lucatero with Cassandra Carbajal recording an assist.
Dinuba dropped a tough 1-0 loss at CVC on Jan. 15.

Emperors' hoops sweep Exeter, CVC in league play
Sanger High junior Luke Dillon unleashed on offense to start league play. In the Apaches' first two games in CMAC last week, Dillon scored 33 and 53 points, respectively, set- ting a school record in points and 3-pointers.

Magaña scored 16 while Ruiz had 12 and Jesus Lara ended the night with 10.
Dinuba will have a stretch
of three straight home games beginning with Selma tomor- row night before facing Im- manuel on Wednesday and Kingsburg on Jan. 31.

A 38-35 win against visiting
Exeter improved Dinuba’s re- cord to 13-9 and 5-1 in Central Sequoia League as the Lady Emperors remained in second place behind rival Selma.
Guard Kailey Lopez scored a team-high nine points and Alyssa Hernandez chipped in seven.
Exeter had trailed 31-22 before rallying in the fourth quarter as the Lady Monarchs outscored the Lady Emperors, 13-7.
In a 73-64 win at Central Valley Christian, three players scored in double figures led by
Yasmine Villareal-Harris, who finished with 16 points. Azlynn Villalobos added 15 and Lopez had 12.
Dinuba trailed 41-34 before outscoring CVC 39-24 in the second half.
DHS also received nine points from Kaylee Villasenor and Roxie Montalvo added seven.
Pirates start league 0-2,
fall to Fresno, Roosevelt

Reedley High’s boys basketball team took a four-game losing streak – two in North Yosemite League play – into a pair of league road games this week.
The Pirates (12-6, 0-2) lost their opening NYL contests in contrasting fashion. First came a 76- 37 pounding at the hands of the Fresno High War- riors in Fresno on Jan. 14, followed by a tough 71-69 setback in double over- time against the Roosevelt Rough Riders at Reedley High gym on Jan. 16.
Reedley fell behind by
11 points after one quarter and 12 points at halftime against Roosevelt. The def- icit grew to as many as 15 points before the Pirates charged back late to tie the game and send it into overtime.
The teams battled into the second extra session, but the visitors pulled out the victory on a short jump shot with less than two seconds remaining. It capped off a wild night that began in the junior varsity game when Reed- ley scored 12 unanswered points in the final minute to pull out a 54-42 victory
behind 22 points from Jo- se Gutierrez.
In the loss to Fresno High, the Pirates led 11-10 after one quarter but were buried by a combined 48- 18 Warriors run in the mid- dle two quarters. Fresno’s Robert Estrada scored nine of his 14 points in a 28-9 third quarter run.
Israel Vildosola led Reedley with 12 points, nine in the third quarter.
The Pirates return home to close out the NYL first round on Tuesday, Jan. 28, against Hoover High. Varsity tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
