The Sanger Cal Rip- ken 11-year-old all-stars were still alive entering the final day of pool play at the 11-70 state tourna- ment in Bakersfield on July 5.
Sanger played Tulare in an afternoon contest
(results were unavail- able at press time), and with a victory would be in line to capture the three-team Billy Pool bracket and advance to single elimination. In earlier games, Sanger lost 10-3 to Kingsburg on July 3 before bouncing back to trounce Visalia
Blue, 16-1, on July 4. Semifinals are sched- uled for Thursday, July 7, with the title game set for Friday, July 8. The top two finishers would advance to regionals
play in Los Altos. Sanger's 9-year-old
all-stars had a short stay in state tourna- ment action on Kerman last week. The team dropped an 11-9 decision to Templeton on July 3, then were eliminated from the consolation round with an 8-1 loss top Kingsburg on July 4. Play in the bracket tour- nament was scheduled to continue through Sat- urday, July 9.
Dinuba's 8-year-old all- stars split its two games earlier this week at the
state tournament hosted by Northwest Bakers- field. After getting out- scored 14-9 by unbeaten Bullard on July 3, Dinuba bounced back by topping Kernan Red in a 23-18 scorefest on July 4. On July 5, the all-stars played Buchanan to finish play in the Billy Pool bracket.
Single elimination play began on July 6, with the finals scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, July 8.
Dinuba finished sec- ond in its pool play at the Ripken 12-70 tourna- ment last week at Visa- lia, bouncing back from an opening loss to defeat Sanger by a 10-4 score.
The Tulare All-Stars went on to capture the title with a 13-3 rout of Central on July 2.
Immanuel once again is in Division V for cross country, and is joined by 24 other schools for boys and girls in the division. The Eagles had one runner, incoming ju- nior girl Gabi Ramirez, compete at the 2021 section meet; she had a 12th place finish.
“We are excited to have Connor join the teaching the coaching team at Immanuel,” said Ryan Wood, su- perintendent for Im- manuel Schools. “He loves the Lord and will bring the energy and passion to his teach- ing and coaching. We believe he will build a championship caliber cross country program that will compete at the highest level.”
Reedley High's Central Section Division I champion boys soccer team held a ceremony on June 29 at Magal- lon Roofing, where they received their championship rings. The Pirates, who reached the semifinal round of the Northern California playoffs, posted a stellar 20-7- 1 record in 2021-22 and defeated rival Sanger by a 1-0 score in the section title match. Reedley then posted a 2-0 home shutout of Branham High in the NorCal quar- terfinals before falling on the road in the semifinals.
