Reedley's hopes for a road upset were predicated on controlling tempo and containing Edison's attack. The Ti- gers broke through after two minutes of play when senior Dimitri Kapetan fired a shot past Pirates junior goalie Hunter Shamp, who made a couple of point-blank saves in the contest. Mrkaich fed Mal- colm Wanless for a goal before Young converted on a powerful backhand shot to make it 3-0 with 3:20 left in the period.
The Pirates struggled offensively before getting untracked on Villareal's score about a minute into the second period. Senior Milton's score brought Reedley within a goal before Edison's regained command.
The Tigers — whose own dream of a section title was dashed on Nov. 10 when second-seeded Hanford High pulled off a 22-21 upset, then displayed its offensive prowess to start the second half. Three different players scored as the hosts built a 10-5 lead, forcing Reedley to open up its offense. The Pirates were within four entering the fourth before Edison broke
